I added a new peel ad to the top right corner of the site. For now it’ll be a cool little place to promote conventions and events and new projects or products in the store. I would love to partner with clients and sell that space as a sponsorship unit. The only problem is that I have no statistics for that ad unit, nor anyway to collect them.

The peel ad is javascript code. It’s not a part of my ad software. I would really love to find a way to track not just the pageviews, but the peel-backs and the click-throughs. Any of you PvP geekperts out there got any ideas. I created a new ad zone in openx and put the javascript in there. It displayed and worked fine but the software is only tracking pageviews.

I have received 10-15 emails today praising the ad and how fun it was to use. That’s fan mail for an AD unit. That’s not just unprecedented it’s incredibly exciting. In balancing commerce with art you compromise and being diligent about your advertising not alienating readers. You have to come up with exciting ways to match products with your audience so everyone wins.

Finding a way to track this peel ad will go a long way for me in that endeavor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
