Remember Fanclubs? I used to belong to the Star Wars Fanclub and always looked forward to the next Bantha Tracks newsletter hitting my mailbox. Well now PvP has a fanclub too.
The boys and I have been talking a lot lately about offering premium content to readers who want more work from us than they’re already getting. We’ve also tried to figure out a way to find a landing point for all the extra stuff we do already, that’s kind of haphazardly dispersed via twitter feed links and the like. We knew that any premium content would have to be community based, have real value and be fun to use.
So it was a real godsend to learn about Assetbar.com. It’s a service that you may already be familiar with if you’re an Achewood fan. Chris Onstad is already using Assetbar to deliver premium content to his readers and it’s a really great setup.
Let me explain how it works. First, you sign up with Assetbar and pay into your account via credit card or PayPal. Then you can use the money in your account to purchase premium content feeds from your favorite creators. For example: the PvP fanclub for $1.99. It’s not subscription-based, so you don’t have to worry about being charged month after month — if you put in $10, buy one month of of the PvP Fanclub and decide you don’t like it, you can get the rest of your $8.01 back. If you do like it, you can leave your money in assetbar and keep subscribed to the fanclub for next month.
Assetbar allows you, the community to rate and comment on your favorite Fanclub updates. And it even allows you to rate the comments of your fellow community members. If one trouble-maker gets too many negative ratings on their comments, they automatically lose the ability to continue to comment. The community will automatically self-regulate itself based on what it likes and dislikes, without the need for rules or hiring monitors.
Even more cool stuff with Assetbar: Once you sign up, you get your own store to sell your own fan feed or any of the feeds from your favorite creators. If someone signs up for The PvP Fanclub through your store, you get a cut! I’ve got Kris’ Starslip Extra feed in my store. It’s Assetbar’s way of rewarding fans for spreading the word about their favorite stuff.
