The other day I tricked Kate Beaton into drawing a picture for me. I buttered her up with compliments and then subtly hinted that I would love to see her take on Brent and Jade. The foolish girl fell for my clever ruse hook line and sinker and delivered this cheeky sketch.
On more than one occasion, I’ve been on a convention panel where some girl stands up and asks “why aren’t there more girls in comics?” To which I always answer “I dunno. Ask the girls.” But I’m not getting that question so much anymore. In fact, I would say that right now, my favorite webcomics are all written and drawn by women.
Kate’s writing is brilliant. Her timing is flawless. Her artwork is detailed and fluid. I am mesmerized by her work. I highly recommend you check out her Dark Horse/Myspace comic The Origin of Man.
Kate, thank you SO much for the drawing. I cherish it
