I am writing this from a hotel room in Bothell, Washington. I should be home in Dallas. But the doctor told me that I could be a carrier still and my flight would have to be postponed.
You see, this weekend, at the Penny-Arcade Expo, I got sick. Well, a bunch of us got sick. Flu symptoms. Not fun.
Then we found out that there was a confirmed case of the swine flu at PAX and we all started freaking out. If I count the number of hands I shook, and then number of hands those hands shook before shaking mine…it makes me want to throw up.
So when I took a turn for the worse yesterday, and then Kris and Mike started to feel sick, I took a trip to the clinic and tested positive for the flu. The doctor doesn’t think it’s the swine flu but either way the treatment is the same: Tamaflu, bed rest, fluids and NO FLYING.
So I’m staying in Seattle now until Saturday. I’ve dubbed our quarantine hotel room Project Wildfire and I’m sleeping a lot. You’re going to see some guest strips rounding out the rest of the week here (and probably at Penny-Arcade too). We’re feeling okay. I think I’m through the worst of it. But it’s not fun and I wish I was home. Or here and feeling better.
Despite all of this, PAX is the best show I’ve attended this year. It was truly an amazing experience. Once I feel better, I’ll tell you about the BETTER parts of it.
Until then, I think I’ll just nap.
