This Saturday I will be taking the 24 hour comic challenge with my buddies Kris Straub (starslip.com, chainsawsuit.com) and KC Green (gunshowcomic.com) and broadcasting the event live from my house via Ustream.tv.
During the 24 hour comic book challenge, a cartoonist attempts to create a finished 24 page comic in 24 hours without stopping. Originated by Scott McCloud, the challenge has sprung several variations and permutations and now has an official annual day where cartoonists around the world push themselves to perform these artistic marathons.
This year, my own personal challenge is to create three weeks (15 strips) of PvP comics, effectively building myself a comfortable buffer to help me ease into the next month. Can we do it? Will we fall asleep? Get bored? Choke under the pressure?
We’ll be getting some help and encouragement from our local friends, the cast of the new hit indie web series The Variants. I have it on good authority that the Variants will be stopping by all through the marathon to say hello, talk about the new series an see what we’re up to.
What? You’ve never heard of The Variants? Holy crap! It’s kinda like….Clerks meets the guild only our red-head is way cuter and our dialog is born from real life conversations that the staff of Zeus comics has had running their Eisner Award winning retail store.(I say “our” as if I’m involved). Check out the first episode RIGHT NOW!
I hope you’ll join us this Saturday starting at 12 noon and going non-stop until Sunday at noon. You’ll be able to find links to our broadcast streams right here, or starslip.com and gunshowcomic.com
