The New Webomics.com

There have been some big changes over at Webcomics.com and I’ve put off posting about it here because I wanted to give things a chance to settle out a bit before drawing a lot of attention to it. We’re making bold moves at Webcomics.com. Bold moves tend to bend some people’s noses out of shape. But to quote Roy ‘Tin Cup’ McAvoy, “greatness courts failure.” So we’re daring to be bold in 2010.

Starting this month, Webcomics.com will be charging a $30-per-year subscription fee for access to it’s articles, forums and member perks. The annual fee is going to be used to help support what the site has become over the past year, and what we hope it to become in 2010 and beyond.

So what do you get for $30 bucks this year? Good question:

- Frequent updates of news, adivce, tutorials and strategies on making and marketing your comics.
- Monthly contributions by Brad Guigar, yours truly (internet pioneer and tastemaker) and Penny-Arcade’s busiess guy Robert Khoo (i’ve read his first piece, it’s brilliant).
-Personalized features like a new email based organizer to help plan for upcoming events.
-Feedback and guidance for your comic and the small business you hope to create surrounding it.
-A moderated, passionate, supportive community of fellow webcomic creators.
-Inside information on conventions, vendors, and other entities that creators access to advance their business.
-Deals on mearchandise.

And hey, we just found out this week, that Reed exhibitions has offered Webcomics.com subscribers 15% off tables in the Webcomics Pavilion area of the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo. That’s a total savings of $60 off a table. So if you were thinking about going to C2E2, signing up at Webcomics.com makes back your fee and puts $30 of savings in your pocket (note: convention hotdogs at C2E2 probaby cost $29.99)

And we hope to be able to leverage more of these partnerships as the year progresses.

More information on his new direction can be found, of course, over at Webcomics.com. You can find all your previous posts from our now closed public forums here, and you can read the official Webcomics.com terms of service here.
