Okay, there is a lot going on right now, so I’m going to vomit it all up into one blog post:
Dungeons and Dragons
Mike has been running a Penny-Arcade D&D game up here at the office every monday for over a year. One thing I was looking forward to doing when I got up here was getting into a regular game. But forcing my way into a year old campaign would be impossible so I’ve started up a side game with some of my PA office mates who wanted to play.
If you’re interested in following our D&D adventures, I’ve set up a page for our group at Obsidian Portal. I’ll be posting game recaps and short stories that I forward to my players every week. So it’s a fun way of keeping up with our adventures in roleplaying. If you’re interested in running your own game, but don’t have you own group, may I also recommend Pen and Paper Games.
Pen & Paper Gamesis the perfect place to visit if you are looking for tabletop gamers or a game to get into in your area. They have a slick search tool (http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/memberlist.php) that lets you quickly plug in your location and find players and games within 10, 20, or even 100 miles of where you live. Kinda like an e-Harmony for gamers.
The Morning After
Kris and I have not forgotten the new podcast we did a dry run of last week. The Morning After is a winner, something we like doing and want to put some work into. We decided the best dayto have it was Friday, since we can comment on the previous week’s events. So we’ll be broadcasting our first official episode sometime tomorrow morning. Watch our twitter feeds for when.
Sumo Bags
Every once in a while the guys over at Sumo make a brand new gaming/beanbag/snuggle/awesome/foamy chair thing and offer to send me one for free if I’ll talk about it. I always tell them that if I don’t like the thing, I’ll be honest. The normal sumo bean bag is awesome if you’re a kid, but if you’re a fatty like me it’s too soft and hard to get out of. The giant sumo is great for napping, but it’s so big you need an extra room for it. The new Sumo Sway…is just right for this papa bear. It’s got a solid shape, it’s a perfect size. It’s covered in either suede or corduroy and comfortable as hell. It’s easy to get in and out of and great for sharing with a loved one. I’ll take pictures and to a bigger write up later. But trust me when I say that Sumo has finally evolved their lounging technology to perfectly fit my giant ass. Bless them.
This Zuda bullshit
Yes. I know that Zuda, the DC Comics run webcomics-contest has been shut down. No I don’t want to gloat about it so stop sending me emails and twitters asking me to. I’ve never liked DC wanting to turn potential new talent into contestants. I was excited when I heard they were going to be ending the competition end of Zuda a month ago. But I’m kind of sad to hear that the whole kit and kaboodle got shut down. I know how hard Ron Perazza and his pals were working on that thing. Personally, I never felt that DC gave it enough attention. You can tell from the low quality books they produced for their Zuda line. They couldn’t even be bothered to pay for the most basic standard paper stock.
What I’m hoping is that DC understands that there is an opportunity here to create new content for the web and its new digital platforms. Beyond just reprinting their print versions on the iPad and PSP. I had a wonderful talk with a guy at DC I won’t name because I don’t know if I have permission to. But he seemed eager to discover the proper format for creating new digital content. I would like to think that Zuda is poised to become what I always hoped it could be: a push by DC to create web-based (or digital) comics with new and established talent. A new line, like Vertigo, that is synonymous with digital.
So rather than gloat, why don’t we hope.
