Scott Kurtz teams with Wizards of the Coast for D&D comic
I get to draw the official D&D webcomic.
It’s true. I can’t believe it either. I keep reading the press release over and over and it still doesn’t seem real. I’m teaming up with Dungeons and Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast to bring you Table Titans!
Table Titans follows the real and imagined adventures of three friends, Andrew, Alan and Valeria, in their struggle to become the world’s most legendary D&D gaming group. The comic will be presented long form via the web, and then collected into real books twice a year. This isn’t a gag-a-day like PvP. I’m giving myself the room to tell bigger stories. The strip is launching January 28th, 2013 at tabletitans.com.
When we approached Wizards with the idea of spinning Val and her gaming group into it’s own comic we thought we would get a very polite “no thank you.” But not only did WoTC say “Yes! Let’s do it.” they took it a step further and asked “What other cool things can we do together? That discussion quickly lead to the plan to premiere the Table Titans Mines of Madness D&D Next adventure at PAX East 2013. That’s right, I get to work with DM Chris Perkins to write an official D&D module based on the comics I wrote. Still can’t wrap my head around that.
The strip doesn’t start until January, but you should still visit our website so you can sign up for our newsletter. Also, once a week we’re going to be sharing your most triumphant moments at the gaming table. So fill out or Tales from the Table form and let us know your stories. You should also follow us on the tweets and Facebooks.
There’s so much to talk about and I’m sure you have tons of questions. So I’ve set up a special formspring.me to answer them. Head over there and ask me anything. I’ve been dying to tell you about all of this for months I haven’t been allowed to until today. I’m DYING to talk about it so don’t be shy.
One last thing. Our graphic designer, Keith, pointed out that if you flip the PvP logo upside down, you’ll see that this partnership has been fated since the beginning.
Below is our official press release.

Eisner and Harvey award-winning cartoonist Scott Kurtz (PvPonline.com) is mining his many years spent both in front of and behind a D&D® Dungeon Master’s screen to bring us his brand new comic series, Table Titans.
Table Titans follows the real and imagined adventures of three friends, Andrew, Alan, and Valeria, in their struggle to become the world’s most legendary D&D gaming group. Cartoonist Scott Kurtz is teaming up with Dungeons & Dragons® publisher Wizards of the Coast to make Table Titans the only comic on the web that features official D&D products built right into the storyline.
“I’ve been writing and drawing Table Titans in the edges of my D&D character sheets for the last 30 years,” said Kurtz. “It’s the culmination of my love for Dungeons & Dragons and the profound effect it’s had not only on my life but on the lives of so many gamers around the world.”
Wizards of the Coast Sr. Brand Manager Laura Tommervik commented, “We loved the original ‘Mines of Madness’ storyline on PvPonline.com that introduced us to Val, so when Scott approached us about a new series starring her gaming group and featuring real D&D adventures, we not only gave him our full blessing but started talking about what other cool things we can do together.”
Those discussions quickly led to the plan to premier the Table Titans Mines of Madness D&D Next adventure at PAX East 2013. The adventure, inspired by the original PVP storyline, is written by Chris Perkins and illustrated by Scott Kurtz. It will be the feature game in the D&D DM’s Challenge taking place on March 23, which Scott himself will oversee. Just after PAX East, the adventure will be made available as part of the D&D Next playtest materials.
Table Titans will launch on January 28th 2013 at tabletitans.com. The strip will be published free online at TableTitans.com as a series of adventures, each running a set number of months followed by a print and ebook publication. “This isn’t going to be your normal gag-a-day strip like PvP,” said Kurtz. “Table Titans is an ongoing longform comic book, distributed via the web, and collected in print twice a year.”
Written and illustrated by Scott Kurtz, Table Titans will run free comics every week culminating in two new published adventure books per year. Go to tabletitans.com now to register for the monthly newsletter, submit your own tale from the table, and get ready to join Val, Andrew, and Alan in their quest to become the world’s most legendary D&D gaming group!
